The society was founded in 1988 a project of the Bicentenary Committee members Barry & June Bullivant.
We meet on the 4th Saturday bi- monthly for a short business meeting and a guest speaker at 2-4 pm at the Research Centre 62 Railway Parade, Granville. This will start in February each year. On the alternate month starting at 1-4 pm March, there will be an open day for the community and members to research, and also for (members only) to participate and learn to the Family Tree Maker software programme to record their genealogy
The society is a Resource Centre which collects the history of the Granville area as well as the Parramatta Local Government area, we supply guest speakers for community groups and organisations, assist students of all types, supply information for consultants, newspapers, and professional historians, conducts projects such as photographic displays in the Parramatta Heritage Centre, photographs historical places and people,prepares PowerPoint presentations for individuals and groups, teaches members skills such as family history research and computer skills, produces talking books for the vision impaired, loan boards of historic photographs to local schools as teacher resources, donate publications to local schools.
Membership is open to all, members are encouraged to assist with filing, data entry and to catalogue books, films, Cd's, magazines and photographs.
Members receive a monthly newsletter, friendship, help with their research and taught skills.
Membership is $10 single and $15 for a family.
Were are supported and assisted by Cumberland Council, Councillors and staff, this allows us to provide high level research service, provide speakers and to collect resources that allow the community to research the Parramatta area and their family history
